Kite fest lifts fun to new heights

Vibrant kites will once again take to the sky at the eighth annual Cultural Kite Festival on Feb. 27 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Blvd. in Sugar Land.

Free activities and entertainm­ent will include kite competitio­ns for all ages, kite flying lessons and cultural performanc­es. Children will be able to create their own kite sat the kitemaking workshop.

Register at www.sugarlandt­x.gov/specialeve­nts or onsite at various times. Categories include largest kite, smallest kite, most unusual, highest flying and most colorful. First- , second- and third-place trophies will be awarded for each category.

Refreshmen­ts will be sold.

Public parking will be available at University of Houston Sugar Land, 14000 University Blvd. Shuttle services will be provided for the general public and will run between the university parking lot and Sugar Land Memorial Park from 10 a.m .-3 p.m. Limited handicappe­d parking will be available at the park.
