LCISD sending 18 wrestlers to state
Lamar Consolidated ISD will bewell represented at the state wrestling championships in Cypress on Friday and Saturday.
Eighteen wrestlers have qualified for the tournament. Five of those qualifiers are back for a second consecutive year.
Foster has the largest contingent. The Falcons had eight wrestlers advance. They include Nwankwo Nwankwo, who won the regional title at 285 pounds and has back for his second try at state.
Two Foster girls are also making a return trip. Nkechinyere Nwankwo won the regional title at 215 pounds to qualify for the second year in a row. Katelyn Crouch finished second in the region at 119 pounds.
Other state qualifiers for Foster’s girls are Marisol Romo (102), Grace Parker (110), Journi Goodman (148) and Sage Bailey (165). Logan Duers, who finished second in the 132 weight division at regionals, also qualified for the boys.
Lamar Consolidated’s Rita Perez is headed back to state after finishing second at 110 pounds at the regional tournament. George Ranch’s Lydia Masters also is a repeat qualifier after finishing fourth at 119.
The school district’s third regional champion- ship came from Lamar Conslidated’s Chime Jiwuaku, who won the title at 170 pounds to punch his ticket to state for the first time.
Other LCISD state qualifiers are Christian Robles (Lamar Consolidated), Rockey Perez (Lamar Consolidated), Christian Mendoza (Terry), Blademir Viveros (Terry), Alanis Ventura (George Ranch), Diana Luong (George Ranch) and Rebecca Chapa (George Ranch).
