Clyburn endorsement: U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn will endorse front-runner Hillary Clinton in South Carolina’s Democratic presidential primary, a Clinton campaign aide told The State. The coveted endorsement will come at Allen University on Friday, a source close to Clyburn also confirmed. South Carolina Democrats vote Feb. 27.
Delegate count: Hillary Clinton has picked up endorsements from 87 more superdelegates to the Democratic National Convention, dwarfing Sanders’ gain from the New Hampshire primary, according to a new Associated Press survey. Sanders has added 11 superdelegate endorsements. When superdelegates are included, Clinton leads 481-55, according to the AP count.
Rapper’s remarks: Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said Thursday that rapper Killer Mike’s recent comments that a “uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president of the United States” have been “blown out of proportion” by the media covering his race against Hillary Clinton. Sanders told reporters traveling with him to Nevada that the rapper was essentially saying that “people should not be voting for candidates based on their gender but what they believe. I think that makes sense.” The rapper, whose real name is Michael Render, stirred controversy Tuesday night at a Sanders rally when he suggested Clinton would be slow to move on issues of racial justice.
Suit targets Cruz eligibility: Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz should be struck from the ballot because he isn’t a “natural-born citizen,” two New Yorkers claim in a birther challenge filed against the junior senator from Texas. The pair want Cruz to be disqualified from the New York Republican primary, set for April 19, because he was born in Canada.
