AURELIANO ALVARADO

1919-2016

-

AURELIANO V. ALVARADO (A.V.), 96, passed into the loving arms of his Lord on February 16, 2016. He was born in Redford, Texas on March 23, 1919, to the parents of Adolfo and Petra Alvarado, both deceased. He had a sister, Flavia Diaz (deceased) and one brother, Frank Alvarado (deceased). He was raised in Marfa, Texas and attended Marfa High School where he played football. He later attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas briefly before entering work with the Civilian Conservation Corps where he helped construct Big Bend National Park.

A.V. then served his country proudly in WWII. As was the case with most war veterans of his generation, A.V. did not talk about his war experiences until his later years. His official Honorable Discharge papers recorded that he rapidly rose to the rank of First Sgt. and he received commendations for serving in numerous battles and campaigns including: Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was qualified as a Marksman and his medals included: the Victory Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal with Four Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Three Overseas Services Bars. Again, WWII veterans were quiet heroes who did not boast about their achievements in the war. However, Dad was already our hero as a father and husband long before we discovered his distinguished military accomplishments.

A.V. had two children, Bobby and Frances with his first wife, Frances Alvarado who died during childbirth with their second child. On March 25, 1951, A.V. married the love of his life, Ester Dominguez Alvarado, who helped raise his two children, Bobby Alvarado, (deceased) and Frances Alvarado. Frances Alvarado has three children, Amanda Homady, Bobby Gribben and Cyrrus Oyster. Amanda is married to Michael Homady and they have three children, Xavier Torices, Abigail Homady and Jayden Homady. Bobby is married to Danielle Siembieda-Gribben and they have one child, Collette.

A.V. and Ester moved their family from Pecos, Texas to Sanderson, Texas for a year and moved again to San Antonio, Texas for seven years before settling in Houston, Texas in 1963.

Ester and A.V. had five children during their union: Gilbert, Patrick, Don, Lisa, and Kenny. Gilbert is married to Karen Kacir Alvarado and they have five children, Misty, Lesley, Andrew, Alexander and Aaron. Misty is married to Miguel Fernandez and they have three daughters, Gabriela, Emma and Sofia. Patrick is married to Carla Ferguson Alvarado and they have two sons, Derek and Dustin. Dusty is married to Antoine Ceyrat. Don is married to Maryann Coronado Alvarado and they have one daughter, Donna Marie. Donna Marie is married to Paul Morrow and they have a son, Lukas. Lisa Alvarado is married to Larry Martinez and they have two sons, Zachary and Lorenzo. Kenny Alvarado has a daughter, Raquel and she has two children, Liam and Alx Vaughn Sticher.

In September of 2005, Ester was diagnosed with a bone marrow disease that progressed to Acute Leukemia. Ester fought her cancer with various chemotherapies but ultimately lost her courageous battle to this disease nine months later. On June 1, 2006, the good Lord laid Ester to rest. We know A.V. is now happy to be joined again with his loving wife and best friend.

With the support of his wife, A.V. was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Gregory the Great, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Communities. He raised his children to adhere to strong religious values placing God and Family above all else.

A.V. was a wonderful, loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dad was a hands-on father who actively participated in his children’s academic and athletic activities. He later regularly participated in his grandchildren’s activities. He made all of his children and grandchildren feel very special and loved.

Dad will be dearly missed by his entire family and all those that he touched during his life. A.V. shared many interesting stories with family and friends.

May God Bless Dad now and forever. YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS LOVE YOU AND WE WILL SEE YOU IN HEAVEN.

The family cordially invites family and friends to the celebration of A.V.’s life. His viewing will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Community, 10135 West Road, Houston, Texas 77064 followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon reception will follow at Kolbe Hall adjacent to the church. The Rite of Committal will be held on Friday, February 26, at 11:00 am at the Houston National Cemetery.
