Minnesota stuns No. 6 Maryland

MINNEAPOLI­S — Nate Mason had 18 points, six rebounds and six assists to help Minnesota get its first Big Ten win of the season with a stunning 68-63 upset of No. 6 Maryland on Thursday night.

Jordan Murphy added 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Joey King had 15 points and six boards for Minnesota (7-19, 1-13), which shot just 33 percent.

Rasheed Sulaimon scored 28 points for Maryland (22-5, 10-4), which has lost consecutiv­e games thanks to another listless performanc­e. Melo Trimble had 10 points on 3-for-11 shooting, and the Terrapins turned the ball over 15 times.

“I’ve got to figure out a way to get us going again,” Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said. “We’re not ourselves.”

CONNECTICU­T 68, SMU 62

Amida Brimah had 16 points, eight rebounds and five blocks as the Huskies improved their NCAA Tournament résumé with a victory over the No. 21 Mustangs at Hartford, Conn.

Daniel Hamilton scored 14 points and made two key free throws late for Connecticu­t (19-7, 9-4 American).

Nic Moore scored 14 points, and Ben Moore had 13 points and 12 rebounds for SMU (21-4, 9-4), which has lost four of seven since starting the season 18-0.

MICHIGAN ST. 69 WISCONSIN 57

Denzel Valentine had 24 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds, leading the No. 8 Spartans past the visiting Badgers, ending Wisconsin’s seven-game winning streak.

KENTUCKY 80 TENNESSEE 70

Jamal Murray scored 28 points, Derek Willis made seven 3-pointers as part of a career-high 25, and the No. 14 Wildcats beat the visiting Vols for their fourth straight victory.

HOUSTON BAPTIST 73 ABILENE CHRISTIAN 71

Anthony Odunsi made eight straight free throws in the final minute as the Huskies held on for a win at Sharp Gym.

Odunsi, who was 11of-14 from the free-throw line, finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and three assists for HBU (1611, 10-4 Southland). Jourdan Stickler nailed four 3-pointers for 12 points for the Huskies.

Women

TEXAS A&M 68, LSU 54

Courtney Williams scored 17 points, and Courtney Walker added 14 as the No. 12 Aggies won at Reed Arena for their fourth consecutiv­e victory.

Chelsea Jennings came off the bench to add 13 points for A&M (19-7, 9-4 SEC).

SOUTH CAROLINA 61 GEORGIA 51

Tiffany Mitchell scored 19 points, and the No. 3 Gamecocks won at home to wrap up their third straight Southeaste­rn Conference title.

RICE 75 FLORIDA ATLANTIC 54

Jasmine Goodwine had 19 points as the Owls won on the road.
