Dynamo will get a kick out of new radio partner

-

The Dynamo have had better days on the field as of late, but the team’s media profile got a boost Thursday with word that its English-language games will move this season to CBS Radio stations KILT (610 AM) and KIKK (650 AM).

Most of the team’s games will air on 650 AM and, since that daytime-only station leaves the air at sundown, on HD Radio via KKHH (95.7-3 FM). At least nine games will air on 610 AM. All games will be streamed at www. houston.cbslocal.com and the Radio. com mobile app.

Dynamo games previously aired on KGOW (1560 AM), with occasional games on KFNC (97.5 FM).

“It’s a very positive result for the Dynamo,” said Chris Canetti, the team’s president of business operations. “(KILT) is a leader in sports radio in this city through their association with the Texans, and it says a lot that we were able to have an opportunity to partner with them. It’s another sign of growth for the Dynamo and soccer in Houston.”

Details of the deal were not made public, but Ryan McCredden, programming director for the two CBS Radio sports stations, said the arrangement was a rights deal and not a time buy.

It also includes a half-hour pregame show and two weekly features shows that will air on 650 AM and 95.7-3.

And while only a few games will air on KILT-AM, it certainly won’t hurt the Dynamo to be on board as a potential talk topic for that station’s shows. The Dynamo also will pick up promotional bumps from KLOL (101.1 FM), CBS Radio’s Spanish-language station, and KKHH.

“The fan base is passionate, and young and diverse,” McCredden said. “It’s not just the on-air product that attracted us but being out at the stadium and being in front of the Dynamo’s loyal fans every game.”

McCredden said no decision has been announced on who will call the games. Also undecided, a team spokesman said, is the Dynamo’s Spanish-language radio outlet. Games last year aired on KEYH (850 AM) and KNTE (101.7 FM).

The Dynamo announcement came less than a week after the Astros announced a new Spanish radio deal with Latino Broadcasting Corp. of Houston. Astros games in Spanish this year will air at K231CN (94.1 FM) and also, subject to change, at KODA’s

HD Radio signal (99.1-3 FM).

ESPN works on streaming deals

ESPN President John Skipper, speaking at the Code/Media convention in Southern California this week, said the network is in discussions with several streaming services but would cut a deal only as a part of an agreement involving several Disney companies. Investors in recent weeks have downgraded Disney as ESPN, along with other networks, loses sub- scribers through traditional cable and satellite outlets. The network already has a deal with Dish Network's low-cost Sling TV service.

Record show for Linda Cohn

Longtime ESPN anchor Linda Cohn, who at 7 a.m. Sunday will host her record 5,000th episode of "SportsCenter," said this week that as she keeps going in her 24th year at ESPN she reamains a sports fan first and foremost.
