Jack grew up in Houston, attending Lamar High School and Rice University, earning a degree in Civil Engineering. Some of his favorite projects included buildings for Rice University, Memorial High School, and the Museum of Natural Science. He was a founding member of both the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and the Houston Racquet Club. An avid sports fan, Jack supported many of Houston’s sports teams, but he particularly loved his Rice Owls. Win or lose, he seldom missed a game. Like many men from his generation, Jack was a selfless provider. He gained great fulfillment from providing for his children and grandchildren. Although not one to readily show his emotions, he truly had a kind and generous heart.
