Water park seeks workers
Applications for a Texas-sized pool of 800 seasonal, part-time jobs ranging from water safety to guest relations are now available at Typhoon Texas Waterpark, west Houston’s newest family destination – set to open May 28 across from Katy Mills Mall.
Applications for positions in water safety, administration, guest relations, food and beverage, programming, maintenance and park services can be accessed at the park’s website, www. TyphoonTexas.com.
Completed applications submitted online will be reviewed by the park’s management team. Applicants will be contacted for interviews at Typhoon Texas, 555 Katy Fort Bend Road.

MYSTERY Theater offers dinner, ‘murder’
The second annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater production of “Shop Til You Drop Dead” will be performed by Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center actors.
Shows will be March 1112 at 7 p.m. The cost is $38 per person. The performances will be at KVPAC West Oaks, 2600 Texas 6 South, Suite 504 in Houston. Dinner will be provided by Carrabba’s. Proceeds go to all KVPAC programming.

BUTTERFLIES Learn to attract creatures to yard
Cinco Ranch Branch Library will host a special appearance by “The Butterfly Lady,” Helen Blocker Payne, who will share her experiences with butterflies on March 12 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the library.
Payne is a butterfly enthusiast who has been fascinated with the creatures since 1967. Over the years, workers at area nurseries dubbed her “The Butterfly Lady” because of her passion for the beautiful creatures and her desire to attract them to her yard.
During her presentation at the library, Payne will talk about the experiences she has had handling and caring for butterflies over the course of her lifetime. Depending on what stage her butterflies are in on the day of the program, she may have examples of butterflies, cocoons, eggs, and caterpillars for viewing at the program. She will also bring examples of host plants that are known to attract butterflies.
Those attending the free program will be able to look through her butterfly notebook, which has photos of the four varieties of butterflies that she raises along with information on each variety. She will also have instructions available on howto raise butterflies.

FULSHEAR City celebrates St. Patrick’s
The eighth annual Fulshear St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Celebration, hosted by the city of Fulshear and the Fulshear Area Chamber of Commerce, will be March 12 from 4-8 p.m. in downtown Fuls- hear. This year’s celebration will feature Houston’s premier Irish band, the Godfrey’s Rangers.
The free event includes a flyover by the Texas V-Tails, a parade, children’s activities, shopping and food. The downtown road will be closed for setup beginning at 10 a.m. Alternate routes and parking information can be found at www.fulsheartexas.gov. The flyover and parade will start at 4 p.m. The parade will begin at Huggins Elementary School and will continue, rain or shine. Godfrey’s Rangers take the stage at 5 p.m.

The Bob Lutts Fulshear/ Simonton Branch Library will host “Lego Fun and a Movie” at 2 p.m. March 14. This activity is for students in grades 6-8. This animated adventure film is set in a world made up of plastic, interchangeable toy blocks. This movie is rated PG.

THEATER ‘Chinglish’ sure to get laughs
“Chinglish” is a play by Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang. It’s a comedy about an American businessman, desperate to launch a new enterprise in China. The play was originally produced on Broadway, but it is coming to the World Theater from March 17-20.

RICHMOND Learn about guardianship
Brazos Bend Guardianship Services will host an information session about guardianship and alternatives to guardianship on March 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at George Memorial Library.

OPERA Performance tackles bullying
The Bob Lutts Fulshear/ Simonton Branch Library will present “The Puffed-Up Prima Donna” at 3 p.m. March16.
This family-friendly light opera, sung entirely in English, is recommended for children in grades 2-8. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, one in three students say they have been bullied at school. This comedy explores how collaboration can counteract bullying by telling the story of a group of fictitious opera singers who are struggling with artistic differences among themselves.
As the troupe prepares for a palace wedding, will the overbearing diva ruin everything? Or is she simply misunderstood? CONTEST Children vie in mall pageant
Local babies, children, teens and young adults are invited to participate in the Sunburst USA Beautiful Baby Contest on March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Willowbrook Mall.
Participants can win trophies, crowns, sashes and banners as well as the chance to compete for a share of more than $2 million in cash, bonds and prizes at the state and international levels.
The pageant is open to boys and girls, ages infant to 3 years, and girls ages 4-27 years. The Sunburst pageant rewards every participant witha trophy.
Winners at the mall will receive their entry fee paid into the Suburst Texas State Finals this May. The pageant being held at the mall is a preliminary to the Sunburst State and International Finals.
At the Sunburst State Finals, to be held in Houston, contestants compete for more than $20,000 in cash and prizes and the chance to advance to the International Finals in Atlanta, Georgia, where more than $2 million in savings bonds and prizes will be awarded.

RICHMOND Dance celebrates Brazil’s culture
Families with children of all ages are invited to take an imaginary trip to South America and experience the culture of Brazil in the free special musical-dance performance.
“Exploring Brazil Through Capoeira” will be presented at 2 p.m. March 14 at George Memorial Library.
Performers from the Brazilian Arts Foundation will introduce their audience to capoeira, a Brazilian martial art combining elements of dance, acrobatics and music.
