Osweiler forecast remains cloudy
Yes, the Texans signed a free-agent quarterback and running back — Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller — adding players at their two most significant need positions.
But let’s not act like due to these moves they are a lock to become a Super Bowl contender.
Miller could be as close to Arian Foster as the Texans were going to find this offseason. Well done, Texans.
As for Osweiler, he is a better quarterback than Brian Hoyer. Duh.
That doesn’t make the 6-foot-7, 25-year-old a good NFL quarterback.
Questions about his command of an offense, his football intelligence, his heart under pressure are what led to Osweiler being benched for onearmed Peyton Manning in the season finale.
Gary Kubiak, an outstanding quarterback coach, didn’t deem Osweiler worthy of starting playoff games for Denver and the Broncos figured he wasn’t worth the huge contract the Texans gave him.
Good for Osweiler. Now, we’ll see if Texans fans and local media believe he earns it on the field.
Not many league observers would take Osweiler over the Colts’ Andrew Luck, the Titans’ Marcus Mariota or the Jaguars’ Blake Bortles.
That’s why the Texans see this as a bright, bright, sunshiny day.
As for me? It’s still a little cloudy outside.
