LINDA KAY BASS

1952-2016

-

Linda was born on August 27, 1952 in Pineville, Louisiana. The family lived in Alexandria until she was a teenager, and then moved to Houston, Texas where she attended Jesse H. Jones High School, graduating in 1970. She then attended and graduated from McMahon College of Court Reporting. Upon graduation, she moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where she worked as a court reporter.

When a car accident broke her back, Linda left the rigors of the courtroom and started work as a legal secretary. If lawyers get into heaven, they just got the absolute best legal secretary for eternity. Linda was one of the most sought after professionals in the Houston legal community. She settled in at the prestigious firm of Bracewell & Patterson and then was instrumental in the creation of Martin Disiere, where she carried the burden of supporting super lawyers while helping to train generations of young lawyers for many years until the rigors of endless hours at her desk forced her to retire. During her career, there was simply nothing that Linda could not do. The mold was broken and now others strive to meet the high professional standard Linda set.

Along her life’s journey, she married Gary Cripps with whom she had two children, Gary Jr. known as J.R., whom she lost tragically to childhood cancer and Brett Tyler.

In 2011, she married Carl Bass, a widower who had been a dear friend for several years. They both loved to travel and just last August witnessed the wedding of her beloved son Brett. Knowing that Brett was now in good hands with his wife, Joelle and with her labor here on earth completed, Linda left this world to join J.R, in heaven on March 7th, 2016.

Devoted to family, she was always at the family gatherings, celebrating the holidays, birthdays, and graduations of all those she loved dearly. She was a loving mother, devoted spouse, extraordinary sister, wonderful aunt and a true and loyal friend.

She is survived by her husband Carl Bass, her son Brett Tyler Cripps and wife Joelle, her stepchildren, David Bass, Loretta Alexander, Angie Bass, Chris Allen and wife Sonja, her brothers James Arthur Davis and David Richard Davis, sisters Brenda Roark and husband Lindall, Gloria Goodson and husband Steve and Theresa Cochran.

She was preceded in death by her parents Essie Mae and Dossy Whatley and son J.R.

The visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2016 at San Jacinto Funeral Home from 6-8p.m. Linda’s funeral services will be Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11a.m. at Christian Tabernacle Church, 13334 Wallisville Rd., Houston, Texas 77049, where she was a member.
