Kingwood Medical Center honored registered nurse Vicki Sheldon as the first quarter 2016 DAISY award recipient for extraordinary nurses.
DAISY is an acrony for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.
The DAISY Foundation was formed in November 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family.
The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the efforts nurses perform every day.
Sheldon is a long-time resident of the Kingwood area, and a ten year employee of Kingwood Medical Center in both the intensive care and cardiac care units.
She now works in the cardiac rehabilitation department.
“We are proud to be among the hospitals participating in the DAISY Award program,” said Melinda Stephenson, Kingwood Medical Center CEO.
“Nurses are heroes every day.
“It’s important that they know their work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to do that.”
