The League City Volunteer Fire Department recently honored the dedication of its personnel at an annual awards ceremony.
“I am always amazed at the amount of compassion and desire to serve one’s neighbor that a person can have,” Assistant Fire Chief Jack Helton said. “The League City Volunteer Fire Department has 100-plus personnel that volunteer daily, and 40 percent donate time equivalent to that of a full-time employee.”
The department presented City Appreciation Awards to League City’s Parks and Cultural Services as well as the city attorney’s office.
James Werner received the Most Trainings Award, and Kevin Kasten accepted the Most Runs/Calls Award.
Rookie of the Year awards went to David Brown and Johanna Milam. Tamara Boegler received the President’s Award, while the Chief’s Award went to Steven DeVillier. Kevin Karban was named Fire Officer of the Year, and Trey Kirkpatrick was honored as Firefighter of the Year.
The department also presented length-of-service pins to: Craig Corder, Christopher Kanyuck, William Lambert, Diego Lopez, Natalie Perrone, Michael Rawls and Brandon Simpson for five years; Val Bernal, Ruben Freeman, Brock Howe and Dennis Rogers for 10 years; Greg Bozdech for 15 years; and David Brandt, Rick Lucas and John Park for 20 years. The city of Seabrook collected $245,338.09 in revenue from the state comptroller’s office in March.
The figure reflects a 9.49 percent increase over March 2015.
The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2015-2016 is up 5.68 percent over last year’s total at this time.

Port Freeport Commission Chairman Ravi Singhania welcomed senators Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, and Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood, recently to the first stop on their tour of the Texas port system.
Kolkhorst and Taylor are two of seven senators chosen to serve on the Senate Select Committee on Texas Ports.
