New faces, no problem. Manvel’s boys track team is off and running again in the postseason.

Manvel has replaced several key members of last year’s team that won the Class 6A state championship but still had plenty of horsepower and then some to win the District 226A title last week.

The Mavericks won all three relays to score 199 points. Runner-up Dawson scored 144. Pearland finished third with 80.

There are still a few holdovers from last year’s state title team. Reggie Hemphill ran on all three relays. Howard Fields ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay and won the open 400 dash.

Caleb Jolivette won the 100 dash and was on the 400 and 800 relays. Trent Gordon won both hurdles events. Daniel Ford was on the 1,600 and 800 relays and added a runner-up finish in the 200 dash.

Michael Tolds won the high jump. Lawrence Murray, Josh Martin and London Harris each had one individual runner-up finish.

Dawson and Pearland brought home their share of medals.

Dawson’s Matthew Murray doubled up by winning the 1,600 and 800 runs. Mykul MItchel won the 200 and finished second in the 100. Kameron Hypolite won the long jump and finished second in the triple jump.

Pearland’s Cole Burgess won the pole vault. Oghenedoro Omerhi and Austen Brandon finished first and second in the shot put.

The Dawson girls were the class of the district all year and put an exclamation on the season by winning the title. The Lady Eagles scored 162 points. Runner-up Pearland scored 127 and third-place Manvel 123.
