Stingy Sale improves to 4-0
CHICAGO — Chris Sale became the majors’ first fourgame winner, allowing two hits in seven innings as the Chicago White Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 on Wednesday. Sale (4-0), who allowed a pair of singles by Mike Trout and an unearned run, left after hitting Kole Calhoun with a pitch leading off the eighth.
David Robertson got four outs for his sixth save, allowing Trout’s third hit and completing a four-hitter.
TIGERS 3, ROYALS 2: Jordan Zimmermann scattered seven hits and a walk over 61⁄3 innings in his third straight scoreless start, and Victor Martinez drove in the 1,000th run of his career as Detroit won at Kansas City.
Francisco Rodriguez served up back-to-back homers to Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez in the ninth before striking out Mike Moustakas to leave runners on first and second. It was K-Rod’s fourth save of the season and 390th overall, matching Dennis Eckersley for sixth on baseball’s career list.
