Kershaw bedevils Angels
LOS ANGELES — Clayton Kershaw improved to 4-0 in May, Joc Pederson hit two solo homers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the L.A. Angels 5-1 on Tuesday night.
Kershaw (6-1) allowed one run and four hits in eight innings, struck out 11 and walked none. He has struck out at least 10 in a franchise-record six straight starts, and he retired his final 13 batters in lowering his ERA to 1.67.
METS 2, NATIONALS 0: Noah Syndergaard brought his 100 mph heat and struck out 10 in seven innings, and Curtis Granderson homered on Max Scherzer’s first pitch as New York beat at Citi Field to stop a four-game skid. Scherzer also struck out 10 in his first start since fanning a recordtying 20 in his last outing. Kerry Wood set the modern mark of 33 strikeouts in consecutive starts in 1998.
BREWERS 4, CUBS 2: Chase Anderson ended a personal five-game skid, taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning of Milwaukee’s win at Chicago. Ben Zobrist ended Anderson’s no-hit bid with a double on the first pitch of the eighth.
PHILLIES 3, MARLINS 1: Tommy Joseph hit his first major league homer, and six Philadelphia pitchers totaled 17 strikeouts in a home win over Miami.
RAYS 12, BLUE JAYS 2: Chris Archer pitched six innings to win his third straight decision, and Brad Miller had three hits and three RBIs as visiting Tampa Bay routed Toronto again.
TIGERS 7, TWINS 2: Jose Iglesias hit a tiebreaking tworun single, and Ian Kinsler and J.D. Martinez added consecutive homers during a seven-run seventh inning that propelled Detroit past Minnesota at Comerica Park.
MARINERS 10, ORIOLES 0: Nelson Cruz homered and drove in five runs as visiting Seattle cruised past Baltimore.
ROYALS 8, RED SOX 4: Paulo Orlando hit a two-run homer as Kansas City won at home over Boston.
DIAMONDBACKS 5, YANKEES 3: Zack Greinke pitched effectively into the eighth inning as Arizona won at home.
PIRATES 12, BRAVES 9: Host Pittsburgh had a seasonhigh 21 hits, including three doubles by Gregory Polanco, in ruining the debut of Atlanta interim manager Brian Snitker.
INDIANS 13, REDS 1: Rajai Davis had three hits, drove in three runs and scored four as Cleveland pounded host Cincinnati for the second consecutive night.
ROCKIES 3, CARDINALS 1: Chad Bettis took a shutout into the seventh as visiting Colorado won its fifth in a row.
