Pearland ISD presents awards to first-year teachers of the year
Alexander Middle School’s Brittany Suarez and Berry Miller Junior High’s Carl Coleman have won the highest honor possible for a rookie Pearland Independent School District teacher — the Glenda Dawson First-Year Teacher Award.
The winners were announced at Pearland Independent School District’s service awards celebration May 6.

ACC wins $1.4 million job training grant
Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Andres Alcantar recently presented a $1.4 million check for workforce training to Alvin Community College.
“This grant will power companies to be successful,” Alcantar said. “It provides them with the foundation to add jobs.”
The grant, from the Skills Development Fund, will train some 600 employees working for Ineos and Team Industrial Services. Courses will cover industrial safety, equipment repair and maintenance, plant processes and related technical applications of plant operations.
“Workers will be eligible for several nationally recognized certifications,” ACC President Christal M. Albrecht said. “It will help our local industry employers remain competitive.”

COM honor society inducts 18 members
The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at College of the Mainland welcomed 18 inductees recently.
