Mary Ray Curry Dwyer, age 88, died peacefully the 22nd of May 2016 in Houston, Texas. Born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 17, 1927, she was the only child of Mary E. Curry and Stephen L. Curry.

Mary Ray moved to Houston in 1934 and met her husband while attending University of Houston. She was active on campus serving as cheerleade­r for three years and was the University’s first Homecoming Queen. Mary Ray graduated the 4th of June 1948 and married Bob the next day. Mary Ray pursued a career in modeling for several years, then took time off to start their family. She returned to work after a few years and later became Special Events Director at Joske’s Department Store. After retiring, she became an active member of the Assistance League of Houston and served as Gala Chair and President. Mary Ray loved to cook and entertain her friends and enjoyed traveling the world. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy.

Mary Ray was preceded in death by her parents and son, Douglas J. Dwyer. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert Howard Dwyer, Jr.; children, Diane Dwyer and husband Tom Cole, Steve Dwyer and wife Amanda, Susan Dwyer, Marianne Dwyer, and daughter-in-law Jan Cox Dwyer; grandchild­ren Stephen and wife Bethany, Jay, Bobby, and Jenna.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 24th of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Vigil will commence at seven o’clock.

The funeral mass is to be offered at half-past one o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 25th of May, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Road in Houston.

Immediatel­y following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at the church.

The family will gather for a private Rite of Committal at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
