Johnny Mack Cutbirth (78) went to be with his heavenly Father on May 20, 2016 in Houston, Texas. Johnny was born in Midland, TX on January 6, 1938 to Myrtle and Mack Cutbirth. He met his sweetheart, Rhonda Gibson (Cutbirth) in junior high. He graduated from Odessa HS in 1956 where he excelled in academics, basketball and baseball. He was all-state in basketball and the first recipient of the Best Scholar Athlete Award at Odessa HS. He and Rhonda were married on September 28, 1957, and had one son, Gary Alan Cutbirth in 1959.

He attended University of Texas and graduated in 1962 with a degree in finance. Johnny worked for the Municipal Advisory Council of Texas for four years in Austin, and then started his career in the bond trading business at First City National Bank in Houston, TX. He worked in this business for 32 years and retired with Bank of America in 1998 in Charlotte, NC. He and Rhonda retired to Cypress, TX to be near family.

Johnny accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1981 at First Baptist Church in Houston, TX. He influenced family and friends in his life by sharing Christ with them. Johnny’s desire and hope for people to come to know the Lord was apparent in the way he treated his wife, family, friends and colleagues. He loved the Lord with all his heart and tried to live a life honoring his Savior. He was an active member of his church, serving as a deacon and on financial committees. He taught Sunday School classes and discipled men in God’s Word.

Johnny is preceded in death by his father, Mack Cutbirth. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda of 58 years; his mother, Myrtle Cutbirth; his sister, Judy Young; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Teri Cutbirth; his granddaugh­ter Kayce Coll and her husband Matt and children Bryce and Bobby; his grandson Tyler Cutbirth and his wife Kristina and their daughter Bella; his grandson Kyle Cutbirth; his grandson Cameron Cutbirth and several nieces, cousins, a nephew and numerous other friends and extended family.

A memorial service to celebrate Johnny’s life will be held at Fairfield Baptist Church located at 27240 Hwy 290 in Cypress, TX on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 11:00 am. In lieu of traditiona­l flowers, donations can be made to Fairfield Baptist or Gideon Bibles Internatio­nal.
