About 900 homes in Montgomery County damaged

-

The latest round of storms left a fierce imprint on Montgomery County, damaging or destroying nearly 900 homes, officials said.

The toll was far worse than in April, when storms ruined about 600 houses. Many of the same homes were flooded during both of the heavy downpours, officials said.

Parts of Montgomery County received as much as 20 inches of rainfall between May 26 and June 6, according to the National Weather Service. The average annual rainfall for Conroe, the county seat, is 48 inches.

Montgomery County is one of 31 Texas counties included in Gov. Greg Abbott’s disaster declaration. That act could make residents eligible for federal aid.

“Given the extent of the damage from May’s floods, I am very hopeful that the federal government moves quickly to support a disaster declaration for the county,” Montgomery County Judge Craig Doyal said.
