Winner will work with other artists in London
Arts-and-crafts retailer Michaels is hosting a fine art competition, and the winner could receive a trip to London as well as $2,000 in gift cards.
Michaels is accepting submissions from experienced and aspiring artists for its second annual Art Challenge. The art supplies retailer has partnered Windsor and Newton and Liquitex Professional to host the competition.
Artists have until June 19 to submit original artwork in oil or acrylic paint on canvas, watercolor on watercolor paper and fine art markers and acrylic paint markers on paper and canvas.
Last year’s competition received 11,000 submissions. The retailer is hoping to see the number of participating artists grow during this year’s Art Challenge.
According to the contest’s rules, artists can submit original artwork in oil or acrylic paint on canvas, watercolor on watercolor paper and fine art markers and acrylic paint markers on paper and canvas. The competition will accept pre-existing pieces of art that have not been submitted to other contests. Entries should be no larger than 48 inches by 60 inches and no smaller than 8 inches by 10 inches.
To enter the competition, visit www.michaels. com/artchallenge. A panel of art experts will review all submissions. According to Michaels, the art jury includes professional artists, educators and authors representing various mediums including watercolor, oil, acrylic, drawing and illustration.
Ten semi-finalists will be selected based on each submission’s creativity, technique, subject usage and individuality. A public vote will narrow the semifinalists to three runners-up and a grand prize winner. Voting is to occur July 5–19. A winner is to be announced July 27.
The grand prize is a trip to work alongside professional artists at prominent London art studio, Griffin Gallery. The winner also will visit several art-related venues. The grand prize winner also will receive a $1,000 American Express gift card and a $1,000 Michaels gift card.
The three runners-up will receive a $500 American Express gift card and a $500 Michaels gift card. The six other semifinalists will receive a $100 American Express gift card and a $100 Michaels gift card.
