Dear Heloise:
I used to pull the inside seal out of containers of cottage cheese and yogurt when I opened them. But I’ve found that the product lasts much longer without spoiling if I leave the seal attached. (Heloise here: Yes, it does, and I smooth the surface of the product with a spoon before putting the lid back on.)
Also, I don’t like to mix all that oil back into the natural peanut butter. I pour most of it off into a jar and store it in the fridge. I use a bit of it on brown rice before adding water and boiling. It gives an extra nutty flavor. Paul D., Waco
