Bryant hits 3 HRs, 2 doubles

CINCINNATI — Kris Bryant became the first major leaguer to hit three homers and two doubles in a game, and Jake Arrieta added a solo shot in the ballpark where he threw a no-hitter in April, leading the Chicago Cubs to an 11-8 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night.

The Cubs pulled out of their 1-6 slide behind a tandem that’s had some historic moments in Cincinnati.

Arrieta (12-2) threw his second career no-hitter on April 21 during a 16-0 win over the Reds. Bryant led the way with a pair of homers in that game, including a grand slam that gave him a career-high six RBIs.

RAYS 13, RED SOX 7: Nick Franklin homered and drove in a career-high five runs to help Tampa Bay end an 11-game losing streak with a victory over visitng Boston.

DODGERS 5, PIRATES 4: A.J. Ellis hit a tiebreakin­g, twoout infield single that capped a four-run fifth inning as Los Angeles rallied to beat host Pittsburgh and salvage the finale of a four-game series.

ATHLETICS 8, GIANTS 3: Daniel Mengden pitched into the eighth inning for his first major league win, backed by Marcus Semien’s three-run homer and four RBIs, as host Oakland beat San Francisco to open the Bay Bridge Series.

ROYALS 6, CARDINALS 2: Danny Duffy matched a career best with eight sharp innings as Kansas City routed visiting St. Louis to open a four-game, two-city series.

ROCKIES 9, BLUE JAYS 5: Carlos Gonzalez homered, Jon Gray pitched seven solid innings, and Colorado beat visiting Toronto to spoil Troy Tulowitzki’s return.

PHILLIES 8, DIAMONDBAC­KS 0: Vince Velasquez threw five strong innings in his return from the DL, and Philadelph­ia opened a three-game series in Arizona with a shutout.
