DAN K. EDMUNDSON

1929-2016

-

Dan Kenneth Edmundson, 87, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 25, 2016 after a long illness. He was born May 12, 1929 in Dallas but was raised in San Antonio by his parents, Oscar and Mabel Johnston Edmundson. He graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio and from the University of Texas in 1951. He moved to Houston to begin a career as an accountant with Phillips 66 Petroleum Company. Later he worked in public accounting for Larry Kozielki, CPA. Preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Jacquelyn Reed Edmundson, Dan is survived by his second wife, Lynn Meador Hall Edmundson, his son, Stephen Edmundson of Houston and her son, Mark Hall of Austin. Dan loved to make people laugh and will be long remembered for his dry sense of humor. Everywhere he went he joked and tried to lift the spirits of those he saw. He enjoyed reading and travel as well as golf and football. He was especially fond of trips to view the bluebonnets near Brenham and the Hill Country. With great compassion for the homeless, he spent many hours volunteering at the food pantries at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and Fairhaven United Methodist Church. A lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a faithful member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church for 46 years, Dan attended the Roundtable Sunday School Class, enjoyed Disciple Bible Studies and dutifully served as an usher for many years.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held Thursday, June 30th at 2:00 pm at St Paul’s United Methodist Church. A private family burial service was held Tuesday at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Foundation, 5501 Main Street, Houston, TX 77004 or to the Fairhaven United Methodist Church Food Pantry, c/o Fairhaven United Methodist Church, 1330 Gessner Dr., Houston, Texas.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the special staff of caregivers who gave of themselves so unselfishly in caring for him during his illness and especially to the staff of Resolutions Hospice who provided exceptional care during his last days.
