Theater productions heat up the stage for summer
As the weather heats up, local theater companies are presenting a variety of productions from musical adaptations of Hollywood favorites to children’s classics.
Stage Right presents “Legally Blonde: The Musical,” based on a novel and a hit movie of the same name that introduced popular culture to Elle Woods, a fashion-savvy sorority sister turned lawyer. The production runs July 8-24 and tickets are $15-$20, with showtimes at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays at the Crighton Theatre in Conroe. The musical was performed on Broadway in 2007 and was nominated for seven Tony awards.
The local production of “Legally Blonde” is directed by Tina Cafeo and stars leading lady Hillary Moore, who will be replaced by understudy Katherine Turner during the last weekend of the show’s run as Moore performs a different show out of state. Learn more at www.stage-right.org.
The Players Theatre Co. presents Agatha Christie’s “Mousetrap,” running July 8-24 at The Owen Theatre in Conroe. Tickets are $18-$22, with showtimes at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays. The murder mystery is directed by Terry Lynn Hale and wraps up the company’s 2015-16 season. Lone Star CollegeMontgomery Drama Department presents “Proof,” running July 7-9 at the college’s Mainstage Theatre. Tickets are $5-$10, with showtimes at 7 p.m. July 7-9 and a matinee performance at 3 p.m. on July 9.
“Proof ” is a Tonyaward-winning and Pulitzer Prize-winning play written by David Auburn that focuses on a young woman, Catherine, who inherits her father’s mathematical brilliance – but grapples with the fear of sharing his debilitating mental illness.
