City ArtWorks, a nonprofit visual arts education resource, will honor Sybil Roos, a major patron of the arts, advocate for the underprivileged, and longtime supporter of City ArtWorks’ therapeutic art program at Texas Children’s Hospital at the Junior League of Houston on Nov. 14. Free summer movies presented at Houston Public Library each month
Celebrate with the Story to Screen free summer movie events presented as part of the Houston Public Library’s launch of its Summer Reading for Grown Ups program. The free movie events will be presented by HPL and Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow once a month during the summer. This year, the library will be commemorating 400 Years of William Shakespeare by featuring movies that are an adaptation of one of several of Shakespeare’s stories and Homer’s “Odyssey.” Get there early and enjoy some special performances before the movie. Food trucks will also be there. Each movie begins at 7 p.m. on the Central Library Plaza, 500 McKinney. “Romeo + Juliet,“director Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film adaptation of the Shakespearean play with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in the lead roles, will be offered June 30.
