OF Melky Cabrera aggravated a right wrist injury during Chicago’s loss to Minnesota on Tuesday night and will miss a couple of days with a mild sprain. Cabrera originally hurt his wrist June 18.

CF Billy Hamilton was placed into the concussion protocol program after being struck by a fly ball that delfected off LF Adam Duvall’s glove.
• Reliever J.J. Hoover was optioned to Class AAA Louisville.

RHP Noah Syndergaard has cleared up some questions about the status of his elbow, acknowledging he has a bone spur but calling it “pretty insignificant.”
Speaking before the game against Washington on Wednesday night, Syndergaard said he’s being treated with antiinflammatories.

OF Blake Rutherford, the 18th overall pick in this month’s amateur draft, has agreed to a minor league contract that includes a signing bonus of $3,282,000.
The deal is well past the slot value of $2,441,600 assigned to the pick.
New York said he will be assigned to the Gulf Coast League Yankees.

Closer Jonathan Papelbon has thrown a simulated game and is headed to Class AA Harrisburg for a rehab assignment.
Pabelbon says he threw around 30 pitches Wednesday. The reliever is on the 15-day disabled list with a right intercostal strain.
• Manager Dusty Baker confirmed the team has signed veteran starter Mat Latos to a minor league contract.
Latos was designated for assignment by the White Sox on June 9.
