George was born to Joe Curtis and Estherbell (Williams) Brewton on July 19th, 1936 in Houston, Texas. He graduated S.F. Austin High School, attended the University of Houston and South Texas Law School. From 1958 to 1964, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He worked for Contractor­s Supply and Lumber Company for over 33 years, retiring as the President of the corporatio­n. He was very active in the local and state Lumber Dealers Associatio­n and served on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and as Legislativ­e Chairman. He also lobbied for the Retail Lumber Industry at the state and national levels.

Upon his retirement, he moved to Galveston Island living in Jamaica Beach from 1993 to 1999 when he married Jean M. Fisher and moved to Athens, Texas. When Jean retired from teaching in 2005, they moved back to Jamaica Beach. Hurricane concerns caused them to sell their home in June 2008 and they returned to Athens.

George was an outdoors man his entire life. He hunted and fished over many states as well as in Mexico.

Survivors include his wife Jean; stepson Clay Fisher and his wife Wendi; brother Joe L. Brewton and his wife Karen; nieces Jessica Brown and husband Daniel and Laura Roberts and her husband Mark. He is also survived by two step granddaugh­ters: Hunter and Keely Roberts and two step grandsons: Caeden and Gaven along with two great nephews: Elijah and Jacob and two great nieces: Clara and Daniella.

On August 10th, visitation (9:00am) and services (10:00am) will be held at the Colonial Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Houston, Texas
