Fans plan to sue league, Hall in the wake of canceled game
Several fans who traveled to Canton, Ohio, for the Hall of Fame game that was canceled Sunday night because of poor field conditions are planning to sue the NFL and the Hall.
Attorney Michael Avenatti, who represented ticket holders for the 2011 Super Bowl who wound up without seats in Dallas, told the Associated Press on Tuesday that no fewer than 20 individuals have approached him about a class-action lawsuit. He said his firm has fielded another 10 calls about seeking further reimbursements, including travel expenses.
Avenatti said his clients are from a variety of states, including Wisconsin and Indiana, who came to see the Packers play the Colts.
“We have been approached by no fewer than 20 individuals who traveled to the game to participate and be ready to enjoy the game,” he said. “And unfortunately they did not have the opportunity to enjoy the game, and as a result lost a significant amount of money.”
The game was canceled after paint congealed and hardened on portions of the field at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
Giants’ Cruz injures groin
Victor Cruz may have to wait a little longer to play in a game for the New York Giants.
The wide receiver, who missed all of last season with a calf injury and has been limited to six regular-season games in the last two years, is looking iffy for the Giants’ preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins after suffering a groin injury in practice Tuesday.
Coach Ben McAdoo was taking a wait-and-see approach when asked whether the seventh-year receiver would play on Friday night at MetLife Stadium.
Cowboys to keep camp in L.A. area
The Rams and Cowboys have reunited in Southern California, and there’s nothing to suggest it won’t stay that way.
Dallas owner Jerry Jones wants to keep visiting the West Coast for training camp despite the Rams’ reclaiming of the Los Angeles market and his team’s new facility in Texas that will soon have everything the Cowboys need to hold camp at home.
The billionaire businessman is also confident the Rams won’t have a problem with the Cowboys staying. Oxnard Mayor Tim Flynn says the Cowboys want another contract beyond next year.
Dallas started training in the L.A. area in 1963, long before the Rams moved to St. Louis. They moved back this offseason.
Odds and ends
The New York Jets activated defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson from the physically unable to perform list after he missed the start of training camp while rehabilitating from a broken leg. … The Indianapolis Colts will be without starting defensive end Kendall Langford for three to four weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee.
