WINE OF THE WEEK

-

NATIV AGLIANICO IRPINIA 2013

The Aglianico grape variety from Campania, Italy, is sometimes called ‘the Barolo of the South’, not because it tastes like Barolo but because it is ageworthy and regal like Barolo. This hearty wine is deep, intense ruby purple in color with rich aromas of black fruit such as blackcurrants and blackberries, along with spicy notes of cocoa and smoke. The tannins are ripe and soft and make for a long, full-bodied texture balanced by good acidity, which gives it a true sense of finesse. It is a perfect match with grilled or braised red meat, osso buco, hearty legume-based soups and medium aged cheeses. Rated 90 points by Wine Advocate.

POGGIOBELLO Pinot Grigio $17.79

Poggiobello Pinot Grigio is as good as Pinot Grigio gets: there is a variety of elegant fruit and floral notes on the nose. It is wellstructured and full-bodied on the palate with a fruity finish. Because of its medium-to-full bodied style and vibrant acidity it pairs well with rich seafood dishes.

APOLLONIO Salice Salentino $14.99

Ruby red in color with aromas of blackberry, plums and licorice on the nose that continue to the full-bodied palate. Tannins are firm, yet soft and smooth. It complements red meat dishes, roasted or grilled, stews, cold cuts and flavorful aged cheeses.

J LOHR Seven Oaks Cabernet $11.97

Red-purple in color with fruit aromas of black cherry, plum and blueberry accented with a barrel bouquet of toasted pastry, dark caramel and vanilla. Sturdy tannins strike the palate and finish with the signature fruit typical of the Paso Robles appellation.

BLACK BOX Chardonnay 3L $15.27

Fresh aromas of citrus with notes of pineapple lead to a rich palate. Flavors of mango and pineapple dominate with a touch of minerality. It finishes long with ripe fruit flavors and pairs well with grilled chicken, white fish and mild soft cheeses.
