Who gets the super stage?
Houston hoping to have a full-throated star for its halftime extravaganza
Adele is amazing and flawless and gives us all the feels. But is she right for a Super Bowl halftime show?
Rumors are swirling that the superstar’s name is being floated to perform during next year’s big football game in Houston. But are her lovelorn ballads the best choice for a show that exists to keep the crowd energized and entertained? We’re not sure. Adele could join forces with EDM stars Zedd or Diplo for some upbeat remixes. Maybe special guests join her. And maybe her halftime rumor is all just nonsense. Until the formal announcement we just won’t know.
But we do have some thoughts on who might be a good fit for a Houston Super Bowl halftime show.
PITBULL
Because he’s here enough, anyway. Dale!
ZZ TOP
Because you’re probably already thinking it.
HOUSTON RAP EXTRAVAGANZA
A showcase of our city’s rap idols would show the world a true Htown experience. Let’s include Bun B, Scarface, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Mike Jones and Chicago Bling.
GEORGE STRAIT
Because he’d do Texas proud.
SELENA HOLOGRAM
A planned hologram was shuttered by the Quintanilla family this year. But if they can get it back on track, this would be a huge debut.
THE DIXIE CHICKS
They’re Texas. They’re country. And they’re not. Whatever your opinion, people would tune in. And the current tour proves they’re still vital musicians.
BEYONCÉ
Yes, we know she’s already slayed it. Twice, including with Destiny’s Child. But this is Houston. How about give her a guest spot? Or a Girls Tyme reunion?
WILLIE NELSON
The ultimate country legend. And how about adding some new-school flair with two current singers? Like Mary Sarah, recently seen on “The Voice.” She grew up in Sugar Land and also recorded “Crazy” with Willie Nelson for her “Bridges” album. Or Baytown’s Breelan Angel, who has made a name for herself throughout Texas.
DRAKE
He’s basically a Houstonian with all the love he shows the city. And he’d likely bring up some familiar local guests.
THE SPICE GIRLS
Just give us the full reunion we really, really want.
KANYE WEST AND TAYLOR SWIFT
OK, now we get it. All this “Famous” drama is really a buildup to the biggest halftime show ever. Genius.
JANET JACKSON
Hey, doesn’t everyone deserve a second chance?
