ELEANOR GLENNA FORBES MCLEAN

Glenna, named in memory of her father Glen, was born in Rock Island, Illinois on May 1, 1922. She was raised on the family farm in Coal Valley and attended Davenport High School, McMurray College for Women, and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. While at St. Luke’s Hospital she met her future husband Harry, a Naval Ensign at Great Lakes Naval Station, and they were married in Houston in June 1947. She resided in Bellaire for over 60 years where her husband had a dental practice and she was a nursing supervisor at Bellaire General Hospital. She served the community for many of those years through her volunteer work with the Bellaire City Swim Team and the Bellaire Office on Aging. She was an avid reader all of her life and a faithful member of PEO Internatio­nal for over 62 years.

Glenna was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Jane Forbes, by her husband of 36 years, Harry R. McLean Jr. and by her mother-in-law, Hattie Clio S. McLean. She is survived by her son, James W. McLean and life partner Marsha Smith of Houston and daughters Margaret McLean Grado and husband Ramon of Fort Worth (formerly Sugar Land) and Rosemary McLean Dixon and husband Randall of Sugar Land. She is also survived by seven grandchild­ren: David McLean and wife Sasha, Elisabeth Grado Christense­n and husband Will Christense­n, Paul Benson, Brent Dixon and wife Lilia, Drew Dixon, Luke Dixon; great-grandsons Cole McLean and John Christense­n; and “adopted” daughter Marianne Bonetati and husband Danny.

The family would like to thank the staff at Atria Assisted Living for the loving residentia­l care they provided to Glenna during the past five years and Hallmark Hospice for the compassion­ate care of the past few months. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, August 12, 2016 at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 3816 Bellaire Blvd. with The Rev. Patrick J. Miller officiatin­g. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband, mother and mother-in-law at Forest Park Westheimer.
