Avoid mosquito-borne disease
Zika is a mosquito-borne or sexually transmitted disease characterized by fever, rash, joint pain and conjunctivitis, and is of most concern in pregnant women, as it can cause microcephaly, a condition where the baby’s head is much smaller than normal, and other birth defects.
To prevent infection: cover up outside when you can and wear mosquito repellent containing DEET. Eliminate or treat standing water in the yard and ensure window screens are intact.
To report areas: with high mosquito activity in The Woodlands, contact the Environmental Services Department at 281-210-3800.
