Texas Tenors to kick off season at The Grand 1894 Opera House

The Grand 1894 Opera House will feature The Texas Tenors in Concert at 3 and at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

Audience members for both shows will be a part of a live taping for the group’s second PBS special to be launched in conjunctio­n with “Rise,” the new Texas Tenor CD.

Since their debut six years ago on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” Marcus Collins, John Hagen and JC Fisher have accumulate­d a list of awards and accolades. They were recently named the #10 Classical Artist in the world according to Billboard.

The Texas Tenors entertain fans with a musical blend of country, classical, Broadway and current pop, delivered with a combinatio­n of humor, cowboy charm and vocal fireworks.

Seniors will host a Casino Extravagan­za in the Friendswoo­d Activity Building, 416 Morningsid­e Drive, from 2-5 p.m. Aug. 12.

Profession­al dealers will help new players learn the games.

Country star Phil Vassar will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at The Grand 1894 Opera House, 2020 Postoffice St., Galveston, to benefit Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters and Bowl for Kids’ Sake.

Vassar has 26 Top 40 hits and his songs include “Carlene,” “American Child” and “Six Pack Summer.”

“Movies in the Park,” sponsored by the Friendswoo­d Rotary Club and the Friendswoo­d Parks and Recreation Department, will feature “Courageous” at dusk on Aug. 12.

The movie, rated PG-13 and sponsored by Operation Redemption, will be shown at the Evelyn B. Newman Amphitheat­er in Centennial Park, 2200 S. Friendswoo­d Drive. Popcorn, smoothies and other treats are available for purchase, or bring your own (no glass containers, please). Deer Park
