Summer program gives freshmen a jump-start
The University of St. ThomasHouston hosted its appreciation luncheon to celebrate the completion of this year’s Mendenhall Summer Institute, a five-week program that gave 50 incoming freshmen a jumpstart on their college careers by earning credit hours and becoming acclimated to campus life prior to the start of the fall semester. The Summer Institute is a program of the Mendenhall Achievement Center, established in 2008 with a gift from Houston philanthropist Trini Mendenhall, the former owner of FiestaMart Inc. and a life member of UST’s board of directors. Above are freshmen Beatriz Gutierrez, Othello Houston, Mendenhall, Hanna Shanar and Hanna Wu.
