Elkins grad wins scholarship from Rotary club
David Sander, a 2016 graduate of Elkins High School, is the first recipient of the Arthur L. Pace Sr. Scholarship award, presented by the Oyster Creek Rotary Club. The $2,500 scholarship is named in honor of Pace, a former educator, Fort Bend ISD trustee and Oyster Creek Rotarian. Sander is the son of Tammie and Russell Sander. To qualify for the scholarship, Sander was required to submit an essay, along with details of his academic record, letters of recommendation and community service involvement. In December 2015, Sander became a volunteer firefighter with the Stafford Fire and Rescue team. In the fall, Sander will attend Blinn College to pursue a degree in fire science. While in college, he plans to continue his drive to Stafford each week to fulfill his volunteer firefighter duties and will join the Marble Falls Volunteer Fire Department as well.
