Parental responsibility
Regarding “Skilled labor requires school” (Page A2, Thursday), we don’t pay teachers enough, and the class sizes are too large. Graduation standards are ridiculously low and keep getting lower.
But the schools only have students for part of a day, while they are not in school for much of the day plus the weekends.
What would really help is parents taking more responsibility for their children’s success.
Teachers can assign homework but unfortunately can’t force the students to do it. Parents need to turn off the video games and TV until all assignments are completed at home.
