Former NFL quarterback and Heisman winner Johnny Manziel will continue to live in Los Angeles and take A&M courses online, according to a close friend.

COLLEGE STATION — Johnny Manziel is taking courses again at Texas A&M, but don’t expect to see him hanging around the Memorial Student Center, Kyle Field or anywhere else on campus.

Manziel is taking online courses from A&M and will continue to live in Los Angeles, according to close friend Billy Liucci, a co-owner of the A&M fan website TexAgs.com. Manziel left for the NFL before completing the courses required to receive his degree in recreation, parks and tourism sciences. He currently is listed as a senior.

A school spokesman confirmed Manziel’s enrollment Monday, saying he couldn’t provide other details because of student privacy laws. Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner, apparently has been in College Station over the Labor Day weekend squaring things away on the registration front.

According to a screenshot of a class’ online forum, it looks like Manziel is interested in getting a degree.

He says, “I am an RPTS major and have been out of school a couple of years but I’m trying to get back on track so I can graduate.”

He left A&M following his sophomore season of 2013, as he was eligible for the NFL draft because he had redshirted as a freshman in 2011. He was a firstround draft selection of the Cleveland Browns, but his career flamed out following continual problems off the field.

He was waived by the Browns in March and then suspended four games by the NFL during the offseason for violating its substance-abuse policy.

Manziel also was indicted on a misdemeanor domestic violence assault charge in Dallas after being accused of hitting his former girlfriend Colleen Crowley. A hearing in the case is set for Sept. 15.
