ATLANTA BRAVES

Interim manager Brian Snitker said he hopes RHP Matt Wisler (sore side) can return to the rotation next week. Atlanta skipped his turn Monday.

BOSTON RED SOX

RHP Koji Uehara (strained pectoral muscle) was activated off the disabled list Monday. He will be available Tuesday, manager John Farrell said.

CHICAGO CUBS

The club is expected to activate reliever Hector Rondon from the disabled list before its game Tuesday at Milwaukee. The RHP has been out since Aug. 17 with a right triceps strain.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX

Manager Robin Ventura said shutting down struggling RHP James Shields (back) is possible. Shields (5-17, 6.07 ERA) has allowed a major league high-tying 35 homers.

NEW YORK YANKEES

With RHP Chad Green sidelined with an elbow injury, manager Joe Girardi said his starting pitcher Wednesday could be RHP Bryan Mitchell, who broke a toe in spring training and has a 4.29 ERA in six minor league rehabilitation starts. Girardi said his other option was “Johnny Wholestaff ” — a reference to using a combination of relievers.

Green is expected to have a contrast agent MRI exam on Tuesday.

OAKLAND ATHLETICS

RHP Sonny Gray played catch from 120 feet Monday as he recovers from a strained right forearm, and he is scheduled to do so again Tuesday. It won’t be determined whether he will pitch again in 2016 until he is able to throw off a mound.

WASHINGTON NATIONALS

RHP Joe Ross allowed one run and three hits in three innings during a rehab start for Class AAA Syracuse. Ross, on the DL since July 3 with right shoulder inflammation, struck out two and walked none.
