A LOOK BACK AT A&M’S BEST AND WORST GAMES AGAINST TOP-10 FOES
BEST
2012: No. 15 A&M 29, No. 1 Alabama 24. This road win over the defending champion Crimson Tide is the Aggies’ signature SEC win to date and the game that rocketed Johnny Manziel to stardom and a Heisman Trophy.
1998: No. 10 A&M 36, No. 2 Kansas State 33 (2 OTs). In the Big 12 title game at St. Louis, Sirr Parker’s 32-yard TD catch-and-run ended Kansas State’s national championship hopes and gave A&M its only Big 12 championship.
1999: No. 24 A&M 20, No. 5 Texas 16. Arguably the most emotional win in Aggies history, it came days after the Bonfire collapse that killed 12 students. Matt Bumgardner’s late TD catch gave A&M the victory in one of Kyle Field’s most memorable games.
2002: A&M 30, No. 1 Oklahoma 26. In relief, freshman QB Reggie McNeal threw four TD passes, and a late interception by Terrence Kiel sealed the Aggies’ only home win over a No. 1 team.
1998: No. 18 A&M 28, No. 2 Nebraska 21: Dante Hall and Ja’Mar Toombs each ran for more than 100 yards as the Aggies held off the Cornhuskers and ended the nation’s longest winning streak at 19 games.
WORST
2003: No. 1 Oklahoma 77, A&M 0. The Sooners got revenge for the previous year and dished out the worst loss in Aggies history to new A&M coach Dennis Franchione.
2014: No. 1 Alabama 59, No. 21 Texas A&M 0. Two years after losing to the Aggies at home, the Crimson Tide exacted payback, leading 45-0 at halftime en route to humiliating the Aggies.
2011: No. 7 Oklahoma State 30, No. 8 A&M 29. The host Aggies led 20-3 at halftime before giving up 27 consecutive points as the Cowboys rallied for the victory.
2015: No. 10 Alabama 41, No. 9 A&M 23. The visiting Crimson Tide returned three interceptions for TDs and got 236 yards rushing and two TDs from Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry.
1995: No. 7 Colorado 29, No. 3 A&M 21. The Aggies knocked Colorado starting QB Koy Detmer out of the game, only to see backup John Hessler come in and rally the hosts to the win.
