Alleged drunken driver faces charges in crash

A suspected drunk driver is facing charges after a crash that killed his passenger and injured an off-duty police officer in north Harris County.

Ronald Cedillos Garcia lost control of a white 2002 Chevy Trailblazer at 12:30 a.m. as he headed south near the 16500 block of Kuykendahl.

He then fled the scene on foot, but was located by a helicopter crew and K-9 unit about an hour later.

Garcia, who failed a field sobriety test, was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid.

The passenger in the Trailblazer, Kristy Delangel, died at the scene. The pickup driver — who was later identified as an offduty police officer — was transported to a nearby hospital.
