Curious winning streak
Regarding “Voting under vigilant watch” (Page A1, Saturday), the Bexar County Republican chairman claims that “voter fraud is something we have known about for years, but we finally have somebody that is running for office that is saying it.” Curious comment, that.
Let’s remember that for many years, Texas Republicans have won virtually every state and countywide election and have had ample opportunities to install like-minded, potentially partisan functionaries in every operational office.
So, if Robert Stovall has known about voter fraud for years, one might ask why he has not done something to stop it. He is, after all, talking about his own party. And his characterization might also raise the question of who has most benefitted from all that fraud since, indeed, Republicans almost always win — somehow. Perhaps now we know why.
It is not particularly insightful to point out that, faced with almost certain defeat, as is Donald Trump and his party, Republicans now cry foul. The system is “rigged,” they say. And Trump’s concession may not follow defeat. Sore losers, I’d say, and not willing to face the reality that the monster they’ve created is one of theirs.
