SMU extends Morris’ contract through ’23

-

DALLAS — SMU has given football coach Chad Morris a contract extension through the 2023 season.

The new deal Wednesday added three years to Morris’ contract. The former Clemson offensive coordinator initially got a six-year deal when he took the job two years ago. SMU athletic director Rick Hart told the Dallas Morning News that the school’s board of trustees has approved changes to Morris’ contract.

Morris is 7-17 in two years with the Mustangs, but he inherited a team coming off a 1-11 season.

Wilson resigns at Indiana

Less than a week after Indiana became bowl-eligible for the second straight season, coach Kevin Wilson was out of a job Thursday because of what IU athletic director Fred Glass described as “philosophical differences.”

Wilson departs less than 10 months after agreeing to a six-year contract extension worth $15.3 million.

Tom Allen’s promotion from associate head coach and defensive coordinator takes effect immediately as Indiana (6-6, 4-5 Big Ten) waits to find out its bowl destination.

Frost staying at Central Florida

Scott Frost says he isn’t a candidate for the Oregon coaching job and is committed to staying at Central Florida.

“I started something here and I feel like we’ve taken a lot of steps to get this program to the top of the league and I want to see that through,” Frost said. “I have no intentions of leaving here anytime soon.”

Frost was the wide receivers coach at Oregon from 2009-2012 under Chip Kelly. Frost was 6-6 in his first season with the Knights after inheriting a program that went 0-12 in 2015.
