Roach’s 16 points help Texas get past Alabama

AUSTIN — Kerwin Roach scored 16 points, helping Texas overcome a double-digit deficit and defeat Alabama 77-68 on Friday night.

Tevin Mack, Shaq Cleare, Jacob Young and Jarrett Allen scored 11 points each for the Longhorns (4-3).

Dazon Ingram led the Crimson Tide (4-3) with 12 points.

Texas trailed by 12 late in the first half, but the Longhorns persisted until they took their first lead of the game on a 3-point play by Roach with 12:47 remaining.

Neither team led by more than four until Roach made a free throw with 1:02 left for a 68-63 UT lead.

Corban Collins, an Alabama graduate transfer from Morehead State, made three 3-pointers in the first half, helping the Tide to to a 38-26 lead at the break. Before Friday, Collins had seven 3-pointers in six games.

The Crimson Tide shot 48 percent in the half; the Longhorns hit 35 percent. Texas outshot Alabama 57 percent to 41 percent in the second half.

SMU 49 CAL ST.-BAKERSFIEL­D 43

Shake Milton scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half, and the Mustangs rallied in the final five minutes to beat the Roadrunner­s in Dallas.

SMU (5-3) went on a 12-0 run, starting with Jarrey Foster’s free throw at 5:28 and ending on Semi Ojeleye’s free throw to make it 48-40 with 13 seconds left.

Milton’s 3-pointer with 3:36 left gave the Mustangs the lead for good at 43-40.

SAN FRANCISCO 82 LAMAR 63

Chase Foster scored a career-high 20 points, and the Dons defeated the Cardinals at San Francisco.

Jordan Ratinho added 16 points and Charles Minlend 10.

San Francisco came in shooting 51.2 percent and nearly matched that, making half of its 64 shots. However, the Dons were just 7-of-25 from 3-point range after hitting 49 percent from the arc in their previous four games.

INDIANA 83 SIU-EDWARDSVIL­LE 60

Juwan Morgan scored a career-high 18 points and finished with 10 rebounds, De’Ron Davis scored 14 points, and the No. 13 Hoosiers rolled over the Cougars at Bloomingto­n, Ind.

The Indiana bench outscored SIU-Edwardsvil­le 34-12, and the Hoosiers dominated the glass, outrebound­ing the Cougars 45-31. Indiana (6-1) eliminated opportunit­ies for SIU-Edwardsvil­le to score second-chance points by grabbing 30 defensive rebounds. The Hoosiers outscored the Cougars 17-5 in second-chance points.
