Chargers hire ex-Bills offensive assistant Lynn as head coach
LOS ANGELES — The Chargers hired Anthony Lynn as their coach Friday night, one day after announcing their relocation to Los Angeles from San Diego.
Lynn, 48, is a respected veteran assistant who spent the last two seasons with Buffalo. He moved up during this season from running backs coach to offensive coordinator to interim coach, presiding over the Bills’ final game after Rex Ryan was fired.
Lynn becomes the first black coach in franchise history. He replaces Mike McCoy, who was fired on Jan. 1 after going 27-37 in four seasons.
Steelers-Chiefs game time moved
The AFC divisional playoff game between the Steelers and Chiefs on Sunday has been moved from an early afternoon kickoff to prime time because of an ice storm due to hit the Kansas City, Mo., area this weekend.
The game was originally scheduled to kick off at 12:05 p.m. It now will start at 7:20 p.m.
Steelers’ Porter back with team
Steelers assistant coach Joey Porter is back with the team in time for Sunday’s playoff game in Kansas City after prosecutors dropped all but two minor charges stemming from an altercation outside a Pittsburgh bar last weekend.
The Steelers had placed Porter on indefinite leave Monday but reconsidered when Allegheny (Pa.) County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. dropped charges of aggravated assault involving a police officer, simple assault, resisting arrest and defiant trespass in connection with Porter’s actions Sunday involving a bouncer.
