Rice comes up short at Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, La. — Erik McCree had 19 points, and Louisiana Tech maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half to beat Rice 74-64 on Thursday night.

The Owls (12-7, 2-4 Conference USA) entered the game ranked 19th in the nation in points per game at 83.8 but had 23 turnovers, leading to 33 points for Louisiana Tech.

Marcus Jackson had 18 points to lead Rice.

Shake Milton had 23 points to lead the Mustangs (16-4, 6-1 American) past the Huskies for their 16th straight home win.

It’s tied for the ninthlonge­st active NCAA home winning streak and the third longest in SMU history.

Lisa Zderadicka had 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, but she could not help the Huskies (4-13, 2-5 Southland) avoid a loss to the Privateers at Sharp Gym.

Chinwe Okorie had 15 points and eight rebounds to help the No. 4 Bulldogs remain unbeaten with a victory over the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Lexie Brown was 10of-16 from the field and scored 29 points to help the No. 15 Blue Devils beat the 17th-ranked Hokies in Durham, N.C.
