No services are planned for Judy Hicks, she will be cremated. Judy passed away in her home with her husband by her side on Tuesday, Feb. 14th. She bravely fought brain cancer for 5 months.

Judy Hicks was born on July 21, 1947 in Chattanoog­a, TN. She was adopted when she was 18 months old from a Memphis orphanage by her loving parents, Robert L. and Dorothy Ball Gates, both of whom predecease­d her.

Judy was raised in Houston and graduated from Memorial High School in 1965. She received her AA degree from Stephens College, a BA and MED from Sam Houston State, Mid-Management (principal/administra­tor) certificat­e from Texas A&M, and her Counseling certificat­e from U of H Clear Lake.

She started her 37 year educationa­l career in 1970. Her positions included teacher, counselor, diagnostic­ian, asst. principal, and principal. When she retired she was a Director at ESC Region 12 in Waco, TX.

Judy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jerry Hicks. She is also survived by two nephews, Darryl Hicks and his fiancé Tina Lawrence, and Dustin Hicks, his wife Airin, and their 5 children, Trinity, Angelica, Josephine, Afton, and Xander. She is also survived by her loving, but temperamen­tal cat, Tabitha.

Many thanks to Scott & White Home Health Care, Scott & White Hospice, and Visiting Angels caregivers, Gennie Pope, Janell Nealy, and Jennifer Hardaway. Thanks also to Kimberly Burns, her physical therapist. Special thanks to Rebecca Cazares who was with Judy throughout her entire ordeal.

Judy’s remains will be interred at Memorial OaksHousto­n, TX. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
