Those with dementia have ‘Amazing’ way to pass the day

-

Amazing Place, Houston’s day program exclusively for adults with mild to moderate dementia, believes those living with dementia can live full, meaningful lives. Participants, ranging in age from their 50s to 90s, benefit from a program that provides structure, stimulation and socialization.

In addition, their families receive respite, support and education about dementia and caregiving.

Each day, participants are involved in a wide range of programs, including: » Cognitive stimulation — Book club, word games, computer games, history and current event discussions; » Creative arts — Painting, music, memoir writing and woodworking; » Outings — Museums, baseball games and Galveston; » Fitness — Tai chi, Pilates, stretching, strength and resistance exercises; » Intergenerational collaborations — With middle school, high school and college students; » International studies — Individual countries studied each month; » Recreational therapy — Bridge, dominoes, board games; » Spirituality — Daily Bible study; and » Sports — Billiards, shuffleboard, badminton, basketball and putting.

The best way to see how Amazing Place can benefit your loved one and family is to call to set up a visit. Amazing Place is at 3735 Drexel, near Richmond and Weslayan. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. To schedule a tour, contact Carol Cooper at 713-552-0420.
