Treemont artists display work today
Treemont retirement community has a wealth of talented residents and a cross-section of skills, from geophysicists to physicians to artists and musicians. During the month of February, Treemont has focused on the artists in the community.
Today it celebrates the artists living there. All are gifted and uncompromisingly detailed, yet their works vary in styles from abstract to baroque — but all aesthetically pleasing. Today, Thursday, Feb. 16, Treemont artists will exhibit their works of art. Some residents still paint, while others have only the memory displayed on canvas to remind them of when they had a steadier hand and a sharper eye. The Treemont Art Exhibit allows neighbors to visit and discover a side to their friends they would never have known before.
Ruth Gunther, a Treemont artist gives a peek at her creativity that she finds hard to contain. She didn’t want a traditional headboard, so she painted her bedroom to accommodate her artist’s spirit.
“We still have all the creative juices flowing,” Gunther said, “and now, we have the time to paint.”
Another artist, Murrell Hill, recently had eye surgery and can no longer paint, but will display her artistry.
New Treemont resident Patricia Rigsby is busy finishing a painting that she will display at the exhibit.
Each of 10 Treemont artists will be assigned a table and will be available to answer questions and, of course, sell their artwork.
The event is from 10 a.m. to noon in the Treemont Auditorium. Join in at 2501 Westerland Drive in the Memorial area.
