Seth Romero keeps throwing strikes. And opposing teams keep swinging and missing.

Romero struck out 10 over eight innings Friday night, and was backed by early run support in a 7-4 win over No. 7 Cal State Fullerton at Schroeder Park.

“His mound presence was as good as I’ve ever seen him have,” UH coach Todd Whitting said.

Romero, a junior lefthander projected as a first round pick in this summer’s MLB draft, notched his third consecutive start with double-digit strikeouts. He entered the game fifth nationally in strikeouts and increased his total to 34 in just 192⁄3 innings.

The Nos. 6-9 spot in the UH lineup accounted for five of the Cougars’ seven hits. Freshman Landon Etzel went 2-for-3.
