UH’s King blanks Baylor on 3-hitter; Rice salvages split

Senior John King pitched a three-hitter to lead Houston to a 2-0 victory over No. 24 Baylor at Waco on Sunday in the final game of their weekend series.

Jake Scheiner’s tworun single in the top of the ninth provided all the scoring the Cougars (9-5) would need. King held the Bears (14-2) scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

Baylor won the first game of the series 5-0.

RICE, STANFORD SPLIT

The Owls split a doublehead­er with visiting Stanford, winning the opener 12-2 at Reckling Park before falling 2-0 in the second game.

Dominic DiCaprio and Dayne Wunderlich each drove in four runs for Rice (6-11).

KANSAS 4, HBU 2

The Huskies scored two runs in the eighth inning but could get no closer to the Jayhawks before losing at Lawrence, Kan.

TEXAS 10, UCLA 5

Michael McCann and Todd Austin each drove in two runs to help the Longhorns defeat the Bruins and complete a three-game series sweep at Austin.

TEXAS TECH 8, UTSA 4

Orlando Garcia drove in three runs to help the 14th-ranked Red Raiders beat the Roadrunner­s at Lubbock.

TCU 16, CAL-IRVINE 7

Nolan Brown and Josh Watson each drove in four runs to help power the No. 1 Horned Frogs past the Anteaters at Irvine, Calif.

TEXAS A&M 5, BROWN 1

Mitchell Kilkenny struck out five and scattered seven hits over seven innings as the 25th-ranked Aggies beat the Bears to complete a three-game series sweep.

PV, TSU SPLIT

The Panthers and Tigers split a doublehead­er at Tankersley Field, with Prairie View A&M winning the opener 3-2 and Texas Southern taking the second game 8-0.
